Puttur : Blood samples of the victim, her baby, and the accused Shrikrishna J. Rao were collected at the Puttur court on Tuesday in connection with case of cheating a young woman at Puttur for DNA testing.
The accused, Shrikrishna J. Rao, who is currently lodged in Mangaluru jail, was produced before the Puttur court on Tuesday afternoon. The victim, her child, and her mother were also present. In the presence of the judge, doctors from the Taluk Government Hospital collected the blood samples of all three. This step is considered crucial for the progress of the investigation.
The collected samples have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Bengaluru for DNA analysis. Since concerns had been raised earlier about the possibility of tampering with the DNA report, the victim’s mother accompanied the police to Bengaluru during the process.
The FSL report is expected within a week. It is learned that the chargesheet in the case has already been filed before the court.
The accused is alleged to have deceived his classmate by promising marriage and later refusing to marry her after she became pregnant. On June 27, the victim gave birth to a baby boy. Based on her complaint, the accused was arrested. His bail plea was rejected by the court, and he remains in judicial custody.
