Mangaluru : The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Women’s Band was recently honored in a grand ceremony held at the CISF Headquarters in Delhi. The event was organized to celebrate the band’s extraordinary achievement at the 26th All India Police Band Competition held in Secunderabad from December 16 to 20, 2025, where the team displayed exceptional discipline, precision, and professional excellence.
Addressing the gathering, CISF Director General Praveer Ranjan lauded the power of women in the force. He noted that the CISF is consistently moving towards becoming a gender-neutral force, with women now confidently performing roles that were previously male-dominated. “You have not only enhanced the reputation of CISF but also proved beyond doubt that women are second to none. The entire CISF family is proud of your unique contribution,” he stated.
In the prestigious national competition, the CISF Women’s Band—comprising one Band Master, 33 main personnel, and two reserves—bagged top honors, including the Gold Medal in the Women’s Brass Band category and the trophy for the Overall Best Women’s Contingent. Additionally, L/CT Lydia Chingbiakmuam was recognized with the Best Contingent (Band Master) award. The team was led by Assistant Commandant Bhavna Yadav and received expert training from ASI/Exe Arun Chhetri.
Conceptualized in September 2023, the band consists of women constables recruited through general duty entry, many of whom had no prior musical background. Under the mentorship of retired military music expert Major Nazir Hussain and the leadership of IG Saroj Kant Mallick, the unit evolved into a professional brass band through intensive training. Since its inception, the band has made a significant national impact, participating in the Republic Day Parade 2024 and CISF Day Parades in 2024 and 2025, symbolizing excellence and empowerment.
