
Mangaluru : A significant event marking a confluence of spiritual and political thought was held at the Mangalore University campus. The event, titled “Sri Narayana Guru-Gandhiji Samvada Shatamanotsava” and “Sri Mahaguru’s Mahasamadhi Shatabdi Sarvamata Sammelana Shatamanotsava,” was jointly organised by the prominent spiritual center, Shivagiri Mutt (Varkala), Kerala, and the Brahmasri Narayana Guru Adhyayana Peetha of Mangalore University. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the grand conference.
CM Announces Land Allocation for Mutt
In his inaugural address, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah made a major announcement regarding the expansion of the spiritual centre’s influence in the state. Responding to a request from the Shivagiri Mutt, the Chief Minister declared that the State Government would allocate five acres of land in the Udupi or Mangaluru district jurisdiction for the establishment of a branch mutt. He specifically directed senior Congress leader B.K. Hariprasad and other local leaders to quickly identify and coordinate the process for acquiring the necessary land.
K.C. Venugopal Highlights Constitutional Crisis
Delivering the main message, K. C. Venugopal, Chairman of the Lok Sabha Public Accounts Committee and AICC General Secretary, expressed serious concern regarding the current social and political challenges facing the country. He emphasized that the principles of equality, humanity, and brotherhood espoused by great leaders like Basavanna, Mahatma Gandhi, and Brahmasri Narayana Guru are deeply embedded in the foundation of the Indian Constitution.
Call to Uphold Ideals
Venugopal lamented that this great Constitution, built on such noble ideals, is unfortunately facing a serious threat today. He drew a parallel between the current situation and the social and religious inequalities that Gandhi and Guru fought against decades ago. Concluding his address, he urged the audience to resolutely adopt the principles and ideologies of these great leaders as the only way forward to protect and uphold the Constitution.
