Putturu : The Sixth Additional District and Sessions Court in Puttur has issued a significant directive to the police, instructing them not to take any coercive measures, including arrest, against Hindu leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat until the next scheduled hearing.
The case was registered following allegations that Bhat delivered a provocative speech during a ‘Deepotsava’ program held at Uppalige, Puttur, on October 20. The speech is alleged to have promoted religious animosity, undermined the dignity of women, and disturbed public peace.
A complaint was filed by a Puttur resident, Ishwari Padmunja, who accused Bhat of making objectionable statements concerning the population of Hindu and Muslim communities, thereby potentially inciting religious hostility.
Based on this complaint, an FIR was registered against Bhat and the event organizers under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 79, 196, 299, 302, and 3(5). Subsequently, the Puttur Rural Police issued a notice to Bhat, instructing him to appear for the investigation.
Bhat challenged the FIR in court, arguing that the case filed against him was malicious and driven by ill-will. The court considered his plea and, in its order, directed the police to refrain from taking any forceful action against him.
The court has issued a notice to the police and adjourned the next hearing to October 29. This order provides Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat with immediate temporary relief from legal proceedings until that date.
