Mangaluru : Minister U.T. Khader has stated that the Congress party has never opposed the implementation of SIR (Supplemental Information Report/Registration). He emphasized that their efforts are focused on creating public awareness to ensure that no eligible voter is deprived of their voting rights during this process. He urged authorities to ensure that the system is not misused to unfairly exclude genuine voters from the electoral rolls, reiterating that it is the Election Commission’s core responsibility to safeguard the voting rights of every citizen.
The Minister further clarified that the implementation of SIR falls entirely under the jurisdiction of the Election Commission, with no role played by the State Government. He noted that the State Government’s primary objective is to ensure that no individual is denied the opportunity to vote, and they are actively assisting the public in navigating the process to achieve this goal.
Regarding concerns raised about the SIR process, Minister Khader advised that any grievances or allegations should be formally addressed to the Election Commission. He expressed confidence that the Commission would take the necessary steps and issue appropriate directives to address these concerns, noting that citizens are required to comply with the Election Commission’s guidelines.
