Mangaluru: ADC Orders Banks to Expedite Loans for Government Scheme Beneficiaries
MANGALURU: Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Raju K has issued a stern directive to banks not to delay the sanctioning of loans to beneficiaries selected under various government direct loan and subsidy schemes. Presiding over the District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meeting at the DC office on Tuesday, he emphasized that financial assistance for welfare programs must be processed without unnecessary hurdles.
CIBIL Scores Not to Hinder Subsidy Loans: During the meeting, committee members raised concerns that banks were frequently rejecting loan applications by citing poor CIBIL scores. In response, the ADC instructed officials to bring this matter to the attention of the Lead Bank. He clarified that for government-sponsored subsidy schemes, such technicalities should not prevent eligible beneficiaries from receiving support. Additionally, Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr. K. Arun advised the Social Welfare Department to ensure that these government loans are not linked to or adjusted against a beneficiary’s other existing bank debts.
Probe into Mangalore University Scholarship Delays: The committee also discussed the delay in disbursing scholarships to SC/ST students at Mangalore University, which has reportedly been attributed to “mapping discrepancies.” Taking serious note of this, the SP directed the Social Welfare Department to visit the university and submit a comprehensive report within one week. Furthermore, the ADC instructed Tahsildars to ensure that taluk-level grievance meetings focus strictly on the specific issues faced by the SC/ST communities rather than unrelated matters.
Compensation for Atrocity Cases: Hemalatha, Deputy Director of the Social Welfare Department, provided an update on the disbursement of compensation for atrocity cases. She stated that out of 61 cases registered under the Mangaluru City Commissionerate, ₹58.10 lakh has been paid as compensation in 45 cases. Under the District Police limits, 29 cases were registered, and ₹29 lakh has been sanctioned. She assured that the process for the remaining cases is underway. Senior officials, including SP C.A. Simon from the Civil Rights Enforcement Directorate, were present at the meeting.
