Mangaluru : The athletes of Dakshina Kannada district who participated and won in the World Powerlifting Championship held in Jose Costa Rica, USA on August 25 were felicitated by the district administration on Saturday.
Keerthan Kateel of Kateel Kondemula village, who represented India in the junior category in the championship, participated in various competitions in the 53 kg category and won a total of 5 gold medals.
Similarly, Siddharth Suvarna of Mangalore, who participated in the 105 kg category of the World Powerlifting Championship, secured 5th place.
On Saturday, District Commissioner H.V. Darshan felicitated these athletes and Satish Kumar Kudroli, who was India’s coach in the competition, by presenting them with shawls and flowers at the District Commissioner’s office.
Speaking, the District Collector praised the achievements of the athletes and said that he would recommend appropriate assistance from the government for their achievements. He said that he would try to provide more necessary support to the powerlifting sport in the district.
Additional District Collector Raju K, Assistant Director of the Youth Empowerment and Sports Department Pradeep D’Souza, President of the Dakshina Kannada District Powerlifting Association Umesh Gatti and others were present on the occasion.
