Mangaluru : A protest was held near Kankanady Coastal Circle under the leadership of DYFI Mangaluru City Committee demanding the repair of the main road connecting Kankanady to Bendur Well, which is unfit for vehicular traffic due to huge potholes.
Speaking after inaugurating the protest, DYFI District President BK Imtiaz said that thousands of crores of money received in the name of Smart City project have been wasted and the main road entering the city has been neglected. Deaths and injuries occur daily due to potholes. He demanded that action be taken against the corporation officials if accidents occur due to potholes. He accused the people’s representatives of forgetting their responsibility and the officials of displaying intellectual blindness.
Speaking later, DYFI District Joint Secretary Madhuri Bolara said that due to potholes, traffic jams are happening in the city every day. It takes an hour to reach the highway from the city. As a result, it takes night for young women and girls who come to work in the city to reach home. Who is responsible for the time wasted in traffic jams for hours? She questioned.
CPI(M) City South Secretary Yogish Jappinamogaru, DYFI City President Jagadish Narayan Bajal, and district leader Tayyub addressed the protest.
DYFI leaders Rizwan Khandiga, Puneet Urvastor, Vara Prasad Bajal, Krishna Bajal, Praveen Konchadi, Anand Anelmar, Construction Workers Association leaders Manoj Kulal, Lokesh M,, Rickshaw Drivers Association leaders Ansar Bajal, Iqbal Urvastor, Janavadi Mahila Sangh leaders Asuntha D’Souza, Yogita Suvarna and others were present.
City Secretary Naveen Konchadi welcomed and gave the vote of thanks.

Young people are dying every day due to potholes in many places in the district. Internal roads including the national highway have deteriorated and are unfit for traffic, so DYFI has decided to organize a series of protests in the district demanding repairs immediately, said BK Imtiaz.
