Mangaluru : Milagres College, Mangaluru, in collaboration with its Konkani Vibhag, commemorated Konkani Manyatha Divas at the college auditorium on August 27, 2026. The event aimed to honor the recognition of the Konkani language while fostering awareness among students regarding its rich historical, cultural, and literary heritage. The celebration commenced with a prayer song, followed by the hoisting of the Konkani flag by renowned Konkani writer, poet, and journalist Mr. H. M. Pernal, who graced the occasion as the chief guest. The formal inauguration concluded with the rendition of the Konkani Anthem in the presence of key dignitaries, including Rev. Fr. Ivan Michael Rodrigues, Correspondent of Milagres Educational Institutions, Rev. Dr. Alwin Serrao, Principal of Milagres College, Vice Principal Mrs. Glencia Fernandes, Konkani Vibhag Coordinator Mrs. Pramila Mascarenhas, IQAC Coordinator Mrs. Chethana Kumari, as well as student office bearers.
A major highlight of the gathering was the felicitation of Mr. H. M. Pernal in recognition of his significant contributions to Konkani literature. Delivering the keynote address, Mr. Pernal detailed the evolutionary journey of the Konkani language over the centuries and emphasized the vital necessity of preserving its distinct culture and traditions for future generations. Presiding over the function, Rev. Fr. Ivan Michael Rodrigues commended the Konkani Vibhag for hosting the event and urged the student community to actively safeguard and promote their linguistic roots.
The formal stage function gave way to a vibrant cultural showcase, where over 120 participating students presented traditional performances celebrating Konkani heritage. The event, compered by Floyd Pinto, concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Konkani Vibhag Secretary Janice, followed by the National Anthem, marking a memorable celebration of linguistic pride.
