Bantwal: The inauguration of the fourth batch of B.Sc Nursing, along with the B.Sc courses in Anaesthesia & Operation Theatre Technology and Medical Imaging Technology of Father Muller Nursing College and Father Muller College of Allied Health Sciences, Thumbe, was held on Friday at the Florence Nightingale Auditorium of the college.
Speaking as chief guest, Rev. Fr. Richard Aloysius Coelho, former Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, Mangaluru, said that serving in the healthcare sector is a God-given opportunity. He stressed that relationship and communication are vital in nursing duties, as words of compassionate care bring great improvement in patients’ health. Nurses, he said, should never bring their personal problems to the hospital; by serving patients with a cheerful smile, they can become truly good nurses.
Presiding over the programme, Rev. Fr. Praveen Augustine Lobo, Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, said that knowledge, skill, and values are the three essential aspects of nursing practice. Continuous work helps to enhance skills, while responsibility, punctuality, and empathy are crucial for effective service. With commitment to study and a spirit of service, nurses can perform their duties efficiently. He noted with pride that the Thumbe Nursing College was established during the tenure of Fr. Richard Coelho as Director.
Dr. Kiran Shetty, Medical Superintendent of Father Muller Hospital, Thumbe, and Prof. Janet Siqueira, Vice Principal of the Nursing College, were present on the dais. Rev. Fr. Dr. Michael Santh Mayur, Administrator of Father Muller Medical College, was also in attendance. Rev. Fr. Sylvester Vincent Lobo, Administrator of Father Muller Hospital, Thumbe, welcomed the gathering, while Dr. Shivashankar A.R., Principal of Father Muller College of Allied Health Sciences, proposed the vote of thanks. Nisha Sylvia Lobo compered the programme.
