Mangaluru : Fire stations have been sanctioned for Mulki and Kadaba talukas and the work related to this will be undertaken soon, said Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwar.
He was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the new building of the Ullal taluka fire station in Pajir on Wednesday.
The fire department has been sanctioned to purchase new vehicles at a cost of Rs. 50 crore for emergency management. Due to the rule that vehicles that are more than 15 years old cannot be used, many vehicles of the fire department were useless. Due to this, there is a need to purchase new vehicles. In this regard, the minister said that Rs. 50 crore has been released for the department for the purchase of new fire vehicles.
The department has been given the longest 90 meeters. A high-rise ladder has been purchased. This will enable immediate access to the disaster sites in tall buildings. He said that it will also be easier to manage disasters arising from modernization and development.
The Home Minister said that the Fire Department has been strengthened to manage disasters related to petroleum and oil companies, chemical industries and ports in the Mangalore division.
The Minister said that natural disasters like landslides have occurred in many places in the district recently and the Fire Department will be effectively equipped to handle them.
Assembly Speaker U.T. Khader presided over the function and said that the long-standing demand of the area has been fulfilled with the new Ullal Fire Station. He said that it will be made a model fire station. He said that the Ullal and Konaje Police Station buildings will be newly constructed and equipped.
MUDA President Sadashiva Ullal, Karnataka Cashew Development Corporation President Mamata Gatti, Fire Department Deputy Director Eshwar Nayak and others were present at the ceremony. Chief Fire Officer B.M. Thirumalesh welcomed the gathering.
