Mangaluru : In a swift operation, forest officials from the Uppinangady range intercepted and seized a vehicle illegally transporting timber logs at Mannagundi in Kaukrady village on National Highway 75. Acting on credible information, the team conducted a raid and found that the consignment was being moved without any valid permits or legal documentation.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the timber was being smuggled from Sakleshpur towards Mangaluru. The total value of the seized timber logs and the vehicle involved in the transport is estimated to be between ₹7 lakh to ₹8 lakh. A formal case has been registered by the forest department, and further investigations are underway to identify the individuals behind the smuggling racket.
The successful operation was carried out by a dedicated team including Deputy Range Forest Officers Vinay Kumar and Praveen P., along with Forest Guards Vinaya Chandra, Shivananda Kuduri, and Jagadish K.N. They were assisted by drivers Kishore and Dinesh in securing the confiscated goods.
