Udupi : Raju Devadiga (66), the former Vice-President of the Udupi District Panchayat and a prominent leader, passed away late Monday night at a private hospital in Mangaluru. He had been a towering figure in the coastal region’s public life, having dedicated decades to social, religious, educational, and cooperative sectors. His demise marks the end of a significant chapter in local governance and community service.
Throughout his illustrious career, Devadiga held several key administrative positions, including the Presidency of the Trasi Mandala Panchayat and the Kundapura Taluk Panchayat. He also served as the President of the Hemmadi Panchagangā Cooperative Bank, where he contributed significantly to the local cooperative movement. As a veteran leader of the Congress party, he shouldered various responsibilities at both the Block and District levels, earning a reputation for his organizational skills and grassroots connection.
Beyond politics, he was deeply involved in community welfare, serving as an office-bearer in several organizations, most notably the Devadiga Samaja Seva Sanghatane. His multifaceted contributions across various fields have left a lasting impact on the Kundapura and Udupi regions. He is remembered by many as a dedicated public servant who bridged the gap between administrative roles and social activism.
