Mangaluru : The escalating conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States has sent ripples of concern through the global energy market, directly impacting Karnataka’s sole oil refinery, MRPL in Mangaluru. While the refinery is currently operational, the looming threat of a prolonged war has created a sense of unease. Statements from U.S. President Trump suggesting that the wartime situation could persist for at least another month have heightened fears regarding the stability of crude oil imports.
Currently, MRPL maintains a stock of crude oil sufficient for approximately 10 days of refining operations. Additionally, the ISPRL underground facility in Permude holds a strategic reserve of about 53,000 metric tonnes of crude. There is also an expectation of receiving a supply of light crude oil from India’s Krishna-Godavari (KG) Basin. However, industry experts warn that if the geopolitical tension does not subside within the next few weeks, the situation could become critical, potentially leading to a significant supply crunch in the region.
