Udupi : Taking a significant step in the high-profile murder case of Mudrangady-based businessman David D’Souza, the police have invoked the stringent Karnataka Control of Organized Crimes Act (COCA) against all the arrested accused persons. Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar stated that the complete case files and the accused have now been handed over to the Principal District and Sessions Court and Special COCA Court in Mysuru for further legal proceedings.
The businessman David D’Souza was shot dead by bike-borne assailants using a pistol on August 7, prompting a detailed investigation registered at the Shirva Police Station. Through intensive investigation, police successfully apprehended multiple suspects, including Raju Faji Subhod from Uttar Pradesh, Anol Rastogi from Uttarakhand, Ziahul Vajul Sheikh from Bihar, Chirag Pujari, Mohammad Irshad, Sadanand Devadiga, Kishore Rama Pujari from Admar, Suraj Kumar from Bihar, Lokesh Teja Kothari from Byndoor, and Anuj Kumar Kamleshwar Prasad Patel from Bihar. Meanwhile, underworld operative Hemant Pujari remains absconding.
Investigations revealed that the arrested individuals conspired alongside Hemant Pujari, Anuj Kumar, and Kishore Pujari to commit organized crime. Consequently, the investigating officer submitted a formal request through the Udupi District Superintendent of Police, seeking permission to apply COCA. Following approval from the IGP of the Western Zone, the case was officially transferred to the special court in Mysuru, and Karkala Assistant Superintendent of Police Ishita Gupta has been appointed as the next investigating officer of the case.
