Heavy Vehicles movement Banned at Agumbe Ghat Till Sept 30

Mangaluru : In wake of heavy rains and the increased risk of landslides on the Agumbe Ghat stretch of National Highway 169A (Thirthahalli–Malpe Road), the Udupi district administration and Shivamogga DC has restricted heavy vehicle movement on the ghat road from June 15 to September 30.

Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Dr. K. Vidyakumari has issued an order under Section 115 of the Central Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and Sections 221(A)(2) and (5) of the Karnataka Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, allowing only light vehicles to use the Agumbe Ghati during this period in the interest of public safety.

Heavy vehicles traveling from Udupi to Thirthahalli have been directed to use the Udupi–Kundapur–Siddhapura–Mastikatte–Thirthahalli route as an alternative.
