Mangaluru : The Special Action Force aimed at tackling communal incidents and communal strifes in the coastal district, was inaugurated by State Home Minister G Parameshwar on Friday. The Special Action Force will operate from the Guest House building near the City Police Commissionerate office.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr G Parameshwar said “During my last visit to Mangaluru, when Kuldeep Jain was the police commissioner, I had announced plans to establish an anti-communal wing. To some extent, Kuldeep Jain was able to bring the situation under control. However, the people of Dakshina Kannada have a distinct mindset and work culture, rooted in rich tradition. Yet, communal hatred is threatening the peace and harmony of the district, with the potential to spread to others. Therefore, we have decided to establish a Special Action Force to curb communal hatred and restore peace in the district.”
State Assembly Speaker U T Khader, District in-charge Minister Dinesh Gundurao, MLCs Ivan D’Souza, Manjunath Bhandari, State DGP Dr M A Saleem, ADGP Murugan, IGP Amith Singh, Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan, City Police Commissioner Sudhir Kumar Reddy, Dakshina Kannada District Superintendent of Police Dr Arun K, Udupi SP Hariram Shanker and others were present.
