Mangaluru : In a significant legal action against illegal immigration, the Udupi Principal Senior Civil Judge and Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court has convicted and sentenced ten Bangladeshi nationals to two years’ imprisonment each, along with a fine of ₹10,000 per person. This decision was delivered on December 8, marking the conclusion of a case that began earlier this year.
The case originated on October 11, 2024, when PSI Praveen Kumar R of Malpe Police Station grew suspicious of seven individuals carrying luggage near the Vadabandeshwara Bus Stand while on patrol. Upon immediate questioning, the group failed to produce any valid documentation permitting their legal stay within India. Subsequent investigation by the police revealed that the accused had illegally entered India from Bangladesh and were residing in the Hoode area of Paduthonse village in Udupi district. Furthermore, they were found to be using forged Aadhaar cards to establish residency and identity, complicating the security issue.
A case was promptly registered at Malpe police station under Crime No. 138/2025, charging the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Foreigners Act, and the Aadhaar Act. During the course of the detailed investigation, the police successfully apprehended three more illegal migrants who were connected to the case, bringing the total number of accused to ten. A comprehensive chargesheet was then filed before the court. Following a thorough trial process, the court found all ten individuals guilty of the charges brought against them. Police officials affirmed that these stringent measures will continue against both illegal entrants and those facilitating the creation of fraudulent identity documents, underscoring the commitment to curb such activities in the district.
