Mangaluru: Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Shobha Karandlaje said, Rs 6.45 crore MSMEs have registered in Udyam portal of the government in the past one-and-half years.
On June 12, Thursday at Mangaluru BJP office, those who registered, 42% were women entrepreneurs. “MSMEs have provided employment to 26 crore people,” she said adding that MSMEs have contributed 30% to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 45% to the total manufacturing sector in the country. Their contribution to the export sector stood at 40%, the Minister said.
Ms. Karandlaje said that the Union government asked MSMEs to register in the portal as earlier there was no data on the number of MSMEs in the country.
The Union Minister claimed that India has achieved 95% self-reliance in defence production.
The country’s defence exports rose from ₹686 crore in 2013–14 to ₹23,622 crore in 2024–25.
Ms. Karandlaje said that India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi witnessed overall development in the past 11 years. The country is heading towards emerging as the fourth largest economy in the world, she said.
