Udupi: According to the latest weather forecast released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in coordination with the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), Bengaluru, an ‘Orange Alert’ has been sounded across the coastal belt of the state. This severe weather warning is scheduled to remain in effect for a week, stretching from June 5 to June 11.
In light of the anticipated heavy downpours accompanied by high-velocity winds throughout the district, the Udupi District Disaster Management Authority has proactively stepped in to ensure public safety. The authority has issued a comprehensive set of precautionary guidelines and safety protocols to be strictly followed by the residents to mitigate potential risks during this stormy period.
As part of the official safety directive, citizens, including children and outdoor laborers, are strongly advised to remain indoors and seek shelter in sturdy buildings whenever heavy rains, gusty winds, or lightning strikes occur. Furthermore, farmers have been urged to suspend all kinds of agricultural activities temporarily during active thundershowers to avoid lightning hazards. The administration has also placed a strict ban on entering water bodies, issuing a stern warning to the general public, tourists, and the fishing community to completely stay away from rivers, water-logged zones, and the sea until the weather stabilizes.
