Karkala : The police investigation into a significant cattle theft and slaughter case that occurred last year at Hadiyangadi in Shirlalu village, Karkala, has taken a stringent turn with the invocation of the Karnataka Control of Organized Crimes Act (KCOCA). The incident involved a group of individuals who trespassed into the cattle shed of Jayashree Poojary, where they allegedly threatened the residents with a lethal weapon (talwar) before decanting with three cattle. The stolen livestock, valued at approximately ₹35,000, were reportedly slaughtered after being transported in a vehicle. Following the initial complaint, the Ajekar police had registered a case and launched a manhunt for the perpetrators.
Under the leadership of the Karkala CPI, the investigation initially led to the arrest of Mohammed Yunis (31), Mohammed Iqbal alias Ikku (29), and Nasir alias Mohammed Nasir (28). Although these individuals were produced before the court and subsequently released on bail, further probe revealed their involvement in organized criminal activities. Consequently, the authorities decided to apply the stringent KCOCA against them, which led to the cancellation of their bail.
In a recent follow-up operation, the police re-arrested Mohammed Yunis and Nasir, along with a fourth accused, Shaukat Ali (36). These individuals have been produced before the court once again and are currently in judicial custody. The application of KCOCA underscores the department’s commitment to tackling organized crime syndicates involved in cattle theft and illegal slaughter in the region.
