Bengaluru: A priest named Arun of the Peringottukkara temple in Kerala has been arrested by the Bellandur police station in Bengaluru on charges of attempting to rape a woman in Bengaluru and blackmailing her by making a nude video. Another accused, head priest Unni Damodaran, has absconded and the police have launched a search for him. It is alleged that the head priest and the priest threatened the woman who had gone to the Peringottukkara temple in Kerala to perform puja and committed the act by casting spells.
The woman, who was suffering from family problems, had heard about the Peringottukkara temple in Kerala. Hence, she had gone there to perform puja. The priests, who were acquainted at that time, misbehaved with the woman through a WhatsApp video call in the name of puja and spells. In addition, the victim woman mentioned in her complaint to the Bellandur police station that she was forced to perform an unnatural sexual act by calling her to perform another puja.
A woman from Bangalore, who was suffering from some family problems, got information about the Peringottukkara temple in Kerala from a video shared by her friends on social media. She was promised that if she went there and performed puja, she would get relief. So she went there. At that time, the victim could not speak to the priest in Malayalam. The victim, who only came in Tamil and Kannada, was introduced to a priest named Arun. He spoke in Tamil and told the priest about it. Then he promised to perform the puja if he paid Rs 24 thousand. He had obtained the victim’s mobile number and called her several times after she came to Bangalore.
The complaint states that Arun, who called the victim, said, ‘There is a spell on you. I will perform puja to get rid of it. You must do as I say.’ Later, he not only got naked on a WhatsApp video call, but also forced the woman. But the victim did not agree to it. Angered by this, he threatened to cast a spell on the children and made the woman naked. After that, he asked her to come to the temple again for a special ceremony. Fearing blackmail, the woman went to the temple. The complaint states that Arun and the chief priest, who had performed puja with her, forcibly took her to the forest in a car on the pretext of a religious ceremony and performed unnatural sex.
The woman, who was deeply shocked by the incident, returned to Bengaluru from there and later complained to the Bellandur police station. A case has been registered against the arrested person under various sections of the BNS Act.
