Mangaluru : The Konkani Lekhak Sangh Karnataka, a voluntary association dedicated to the promotion of the Konkani language and literature since 2018, has announced its prestigious annual award for the year 2026. The award committee has chosen the veteran Konkani writer, Mr. Patrick Camille Moras, popularly known by his pen name M. Patrik, for his extraordinary and lifelong contribution to Konkani letters. The honor, which includes a cash prize of ₹25,000, a citation, and a memento, is part of the Sangh’s initiative started in 2022 to recognize literary stalwarts.
Born on November 17, 1945, M. Patrik’s journey is one of immense resilience. Despite being forced to discontinue his formal education after the fifth grade to support his family, his passion for literature remained undeterred. Under the mentorship of J.B. Rasquinha, he began his career by selling books door-to-door and eventually became the Associate Editor of Kannik Konkani Magazine at the young age of eighteen. Over the decades, he has authored an incredible body of work, including over 800 short stories, 400 articles, and ten novels. Through his publishing house, Nityadar Prakashan, he further enriched the literary landscape by publishing various plays and detective dramas.
M. Patrik’s dedication has already earned him significant accolades, including the Honorary Award from the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and the ‘Sandesha Konkani Literature Award – 2026’. The Konkani Lekhak Sangh award ceremony is scheduled to take place on February 07, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at the Sandesha Foundation premises in Bajjodi, Mangaluru. The announcement was made during a press meet attended by Convener Richard Moras, committee member Dolphy F. Lobo, and advisory members Dr. Jerry Niddodi and J.F. D’Souza.
