Kundapura : The Kundapur police on Tuesday arrested six persons, including a 43-year-old woman, on charges of kidnap and dacoity in an alleged honey-trapping case.
Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar in a statement here gave the names of the accused as Savad, 28, resident of Badakere in Byndoor taluk; Saifulla, 38, resident of Gulvadi; Mohammed Nasir Sharief, 36, resident of Hanglur; Abdul Sattar, 23, resident of Kumbhasi; Asma, 43, resident of Kodi, all in Kundapur taluk, and Abdul Aziz, 26, resident of Hosanagara in Shivamogga district.
The police have also seized two cars used by the accused.
Complainant Sandeep Kumar, 37, from Peradala in Kasaragod district, came in contact with Savad in Mangaluru with the latter giving him the number of Asma saying she offered sexual services. When Sandeep called Asma on Monday, she reportedly told him to meet her near a petrol station in Kundapur.
She took the complainant to her house where Asma allegedly called the other accused, who demanded ₹3 lakh ransom. When Sandeep refused, the accused allegedly tied him with a rope and assaulted him. The accused snatched ₹6,200 cash and got ₹30,000 transferred to them through UPI. They also snatched the victim’s ATM card and withdrew ₹40,000 after getting the PIN, the complainant said. He was released late in the night.
SP said the accused were booked for offences of kidnap for ransom, dacoity, causing hurt, wrongful confinement, criminal intimidation, breach of peace and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The Kundapur police are investigating.
