Kasaragod : The Vigilance Department launched a surprise raid on the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Kasaragod, uncovering a unique and corrupt method of hiding illicit cash. Led by Vigilance Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Unnikrishnan, the operation resulted in the seizure of ₹17,150, which had been craftily hidden underneath flower pots kept right outside the office premises.
The sting operation was initiated following a barrage of complaints from the public, who alleged that no official work was being processed at the Kasaragod RTO without grease money or the intervention of middlemen. During the crackdown, vigilance officials confiscated numerous vehicle-related application forms, requests submitted by agents along with cash, and several critical official documents that rightfully belonged to ordinary citizens but were being withheld.
Investigating further into complaints that RTO staff and agents were actively harassing the public for bribes, authorities conducted simultaneous raids at both the Kasaragod and Kanhangad RTO facilities. A substantial volume of unauthorized vehicle records and applications was also seized from the Kanhangad office, exposing a widespread network of corruption operating through agents across the district.
