Belthangady : A leopard has resurfaced near Belthangady town, intensifying fear among local residents after it attacked and killed a domestic dog in the Sudemugeru area on Tuesday night. The predator’s movements have been tracked closely over the past week, with sightings reported in Muguli and Kelaguttu Junction on January 31, followed by another appearance near Udayanagar on February 2. The latest incident occurred around 8:00 PM on Tuesday, dangerously close to residential pockets.
According to local witnesses, the leopard was seen carrying away a dog, an incident that has left the neighborhood in a state of panic. Ironically, the sighting took place in the vicinity of the Belthangady office of the Kudremukh Wildlife Division Forest Department. The proximity of the wild cat to human dwellings has made residents fearful of stepping out of their homes after dark.
In light of the repeated sightings and the recent kill, the local community has expressed urgent concern for their safety. They have submitted a formal demand to the Forest Department to intervene immediately by placing a cage trap to capture the leopard before it causes any further harm or potential attacks on humans.
