Puttur : A house in Bedraala, Narimogaru village, Puttur taluk, was completely devastated and five people, including a child, sustained minor injuries after a severe lightning strike hit the area during a heavy thunderstorm late on the evening of October 19.
The house, owned by local resident Dayananda Moolya, was rendered uninhabitable by the powerful lightning.
The lightning strike caused catastrophic structural damage. The force of the blast completely shattered the tiled roof, and a section of the house’s cement sheet roofing was also destroyed. Furthermore, parts of the walls suffered a partial collapse. Authorities suspect that the impact of the strike may have been intensified due to the proximity of a nearby electric transformer.
The five family members sustained their minor injuries when fragments of the roof and debris rained down on them. They were immediately transported to the Puttur hospital for treatment, where their condition is reported as stable. This incident highlights the extreme danger of thunderstorms in the region during the transitional weather period. [Image: A damaged home, or a flash of lightning]
