Mangaluru : The Konaje police have apprehended a 33-year-old man following a deeply disturbing incident involving the sexual assault of a nine-year-old minor. The accused, identified as Ashish Poojary, a resident of Madyar and an employee at a logistics firm in Bejai, was arrested on Wednesday, March 18. The arrest followed a formal complaint lodged by the victim’s family, who alleged that the child had been targeted through manipulative grooming tactics. Authorities have moved swiftly to secure the suspect and initiate a comprehensive legal process to ensure justice for the young survivor.
Investigations into the case revealed that the accused allegedly lured the child to a secluded location by offering pocket money and snacks. According to police sources, the ordeal involved not only physical assault but also the use of a mobile phone to show the minor obscene content, further inciting lewd acts. This level of premeditation has caused significant outrage within the local community. The police have emphasized that the nature of the crime highlights a grave violation of child safety and trust, leading to the immediate invocation of stringent legal provisions.
The Konaje police have registered the case under several critical sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, specifically Sections 4, 6, and 12, alongside Section 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Following his production before the court, Poojary has been remanded to judicial custody. While the primary suspect is in behind bars, officials confirmed that the investigation remains active to explore any further criminal patterns. In strict adherence to judicial guidelines, the identity of the minor remains protected to ensure the child’s privacy and safety during the legal proceedings.
