Mangaluru : A significant infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity to the Baikampady Industrial Area is set to begin this Thursday. The project, which includes the construction of a well-equipped concrete road alongside the highway and a dedicated truck yard, will be executed at an estimated cost of ₹11 crore. This initiative is being funded by the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) following a formal request made by Mangaluru City North MLA Dr. Y. Bharath Shetty. The development addresses a long-standing demand from local entrepreneurs and commuters who have been seeking a permanent solution for the heavy traffic and road conditions in this vital industrial zone.
To ensure the smooth execution of the project and minimal public inconvenience, a high-level coordination meeting was chaired by MLA Dr. Bharath Shetty on Monday. The meeting was attended by key officials from the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB), the Traffic Police Department, and the Port Authority. During the discussions, the MLA issued strict instructions to the concerned authorities to complete the entire project within a span of two months. The meeting also focused on meticulous planning regarding the work schedule and the necessary traffic diversions required to manage the high volume of heavy vehicles frequently operating in this sector.
In light of the construction, the Traffic Police will soon issue an official order to temporarily close the relevant road stretches to facilitate the work. Starting Thursday, alternative traffic routes will be implemented to ensure an uninterrupted flow of vehicles. Given that the Baikampady Industrial Area is a major economic hub, this concrete road and truck yard project is expected to significantly enhance logistical efficiency and safety for heavy vehicle operators and the general public alike.
