Mangaluru : CISF personnel on Monday detained an individual for attempting to smuggle hydroponic ganja (marijuana) via an air route from Mumbai and subsequently handed him over to the Bajpe Police.
The arrested person has been identified as Shankar Narayan Poddar.
The incident occurred on Monday evening at approximately 6:30 PM. Airport security staff received specific and confirmed intelligence regarding a passenger carrying contraband on an IndiGo flight arriving in Mangaluru from Mumbai.
Acting on the tip-off, security personnel and CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) jawans intercepted the passenger immediately upon his arrival at the Mangaluru International Airport. A thorough inspection of Poddar’s check-in baggage led to the discovery of approximately 512 grams of hydroponic ganja.
Following the seizure, the CISF personnel immediately notified officials at the Bengaluru Airport. The accused, Shankar Narayan Poddar, along with the recovered narcotics, was then transferred to the Bajpe Police Station for further interrogation and the initiation of legal proceedings.
