Mangaluru : Grand Reunion at Mangalagangothri Celebrates Legacy and Future Initiatives
The “Mangal Alumni Meet – Smruthi Sangama” was grandly inaugurated on Sunday at the Mangalore University Sports Ground in Konaje, marking a historic gathering of former students. U. Kanchuru Monu, President of Kanchuru Group of Institutions, officially launched the event and the association’s new website, expressing immense pride in his roots and the university’s role in shaping national leaders. Recalling his childhood in a once-barren Konaje, he noted the area’s transformation into a premier educational hub and emphasized the collective responsibility of alumni to preserve the institution’s dignity and maintain a vibrant, clean campus. He also highlighted recent discussions with the Higher Education Minister regarding the university’s continued development and reputation.
The event served as an emotional platform for thousands of alumni who traveled from various districts to reconnect with long-lost friends and former professors. Chief Guest Prof. A.M. Khan, Vice-Chancellor of Dharwad University, lauded the Mangalore University Alumni Association as a model for the state, citing its active involvement in social initiatives and student welfare. The day was filled with nostalgic interactions, cultural performances by former campus talents, and a communal lunch that fostered a deep sense of gratitude and renewal of lifelong friendships. Honorary President Dinesh Kumar Alva reflected on the university’s growth since its inception in 2006, urging the association to continue expanding its reach to bring more graduates into the fold.
Looking toward the future, the Mangal Alumni Association, led by President Ramakrishna Rao, announced several ambitious projects aimed at supporting current students and the community. With a network of 25,000 members, the association is working to digitize its database and has already collected details for 7,000 individuals through its newly launched website. Upcoming initiatives include a Job Fair scheduled for this month, an Online Mentoring Programme, and the introduction of specialized courses in Effective Communication and Artificial Intelligence across all departments. Rao emphasized that the strength of the legacy lies in unity and called upon all alumni to share their expertise to ensure the institution remains a beacon of excellence for generations to come.
