Mangaluru: A man, who attempted suicide by jumping into the sea with his young daughter and subsequently trying to hang himself, has been rescued along with the child. The child has since been handed over to her maternal grandfather, police said. The man had reportedly attempted the extreme step due to a prolonged dispute with his wife. Prompt action by the police ensured the timely rescue of both individuals.
Police made efforts to resolve the differences between the couple, but the wife reportedly refused to reconcile and insisted on a divorce. Consequently, the police advised the couple to resolve the matter legally through the court system.
Officials stated that the child’s mother also agreed to place her daughter under the care of her father (the child’s grandfather). Accordingly, the child was handed over to him for safe keeping.
