Mangaluru : Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) has established a new record for single-day passenger traffic, handling 8,168 passengers on October 1, 2025, which coincided with the festive season of Mahanavami. This achievement surpasses the previous record of 8,103 passengers set in April 2025 and underscores the airport’s increasing operational capacity. The record-breaking day saw a total of 61 flight movements, including 46 domestic and 12 international, reflecting strengthened air connectivity from the coastal city.
Surge in International Travel Drives Half-Year Performance
The airport’s robust performance continued through the first half of the fiscal year 2025-26, recording a total of over 1.24 million passengers between April and September—a 10.9% increase compared to the same period last year. The surge was primarily driven by international operations, which witnessed a remarkable 22.1% growth in passenger traffic. Domestic travel also registered a steady growth of 6.2%. The key international routes driving this traffic were Dubai and Abu Dhabi, while Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi remained the top domestic destinations.
Expansion of Connectivity and Operational Excellence
Airlines have significantly expanded their routes from Mangaluru, with Air India Express, Emirates, and AirAsia increasing their connectivity to major international destinations like Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, Jeddah, and Kuwait. Further enhancing regional links, Air India Express has proposed a new thrice-weekly direct flight service between Mangaluru and Thiruvananthapuram, set to commence during the winter schedule. Beyond connectivity, MIA received global recognition by bagging six gold awards at the Quality Circle Forum of India (QCFI) convention for projects focused on continuous improvement, efficiency, safety, and sustainability, including initiatives for structural integrity and a “zero waste to landfill” goal. The airport was also earlier recognized globally as the Best Airport at Arrivals at the prestigious Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards.
