Mangaluru : The Dakshina Kannada District Cyber Crime Police have arrested a man from Yeshwanthpur, Bengaluru, for allegedly perpetrating a major cyber fraud. The accused, Vasudeva R. (32), is reported to have cheated a member of the public out of approximately ₹24,78,274 by advertising quick solutions to personal problems through special poojas (rituals) on his Instagram account.
The arrest was made on Tuesday by the District Cyber Crime Police Station officials following a complaint lodged by the victim. The complaint detailed how the victim was lured by the online advertisement and subsequently defrauded of the significant sum under the pretense of ritualistic problem-solving. A case was registered against the accused at the Dakshina Kannada District Cyber Crime Police Station.
During the operation, police successfully apprehended Vasuva and seized key evidence used in the commission of the crime. The seized items included four mobile phones and ₹20,300 in cash. The total value of the property confiscated is estimated to be ₹1,60,300, according to the police.
The accused was produced before the court on November 5th, and the court subsequently ordered him to judicial custody. This incident serves as a stern warning against responding to such dubious online advertisements promising quick fixes for personal issues.
