Ullal : In response to rising public complaints and a high frequency of road accidents, the Public Works Department (PWD) and local authorities conducted a massive clearance drive along the Thokkottu-Mangalore University road. The operation, which began on the morning of February 9 and continued until evening, targeted unauthorized structures and petty shops situated between Thokkottu and Asaigoli. To ensure an efficient process, officials deployed two JCB excavators and a dedicated team of ten workers to clear the encroachments.
During the extensive drive, more than 50 petty shops and street-side vending sheds were dismantled. Prior to this action, the administration had issued formal warnings by pasting eviction notices on the structures on February 2, initially setting a deadline for February 5. Despite granting a short extension of two days to allow vendors to voluntarily relocate, the authorities moved forward with the forceful clearance to ensure road safety and smoother traffic flow for the public.
