Mangaluru: Taking a tough stand against the growing menace of unauthorized flex banners and hoardings, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has launched a massive clearance drive. To ensure the city remains clean and organized, the civic body has decided to not only remove illegal advertisements but also impose hefty penalties on violators.
Strategic Zonal Division for Effective Enforcement To streamline the operation, the MCC has divided the city into three strategic zones: Surathkal, Kadri, and Lalbagh. A dedicated task force has been assigned to each zone to monitor and act against violations. This structural division is intended to ensure that no corner of the city is left unchecked and that the removal process is carried out systematically.
Composition of the Task Force Each of the three teams comprises high-ranking officials and field staff to ensure legal and physical compliance. The teams include an Assistant Revenue Officer (ARO), Revenue Inspectors, Bill Collectors, and additional support personnel. These officials have been granted the authority to identify unauthorized structures, pull them down immediately, and issue spot fines to the individuals or organizations responsible for the installations.
Commitment to Urban Aesthetics and Safety The proliferation of illegal banners has long been a concern for residents, as they often deface public property and distract motorists, posing a risk to road safety. MCC officials have stated that the drive will be continuous and that no exemptions will be made for political, social, or commercial advertisements put up without prior permission. The corporation has urged citizens to obtain the necessary clearances from the civic body before installing any promotional materials in public spaces.
