Mangaluru : South MLA Vedavyas Kamath has leveled serious allegations against the officials of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC), accusing them of practicing selective discrimination during eviction drives. Speaking at a press conference held at the Atal Seva Kendra on Tuesday, Kamath claimed that the authorities are targeting petty shops and street vendors in areas like Kadri Park and Ladyhill based on instructions from Congress leaders. He stated that while action is being taken ruthlessly in some spots, officials remain indifferent to violations in other areas, acting like “puppets” of the ruling party.
The MLA emphasized that if the MCC intends to clear petty shops, the rules must be applied uniformly across the city. He challenged the officials to either remove all such structures or refrain from touching any of them, rather than selectively picking targets to appease political bosses. Kamath remarked that such blatant injustice was never seen during the BJP’s tenure. He also took a swipe at Communist leaders, alleging that they only raise their voices to protect their own party workers while ignoring the plight of other small-scale vendors.
Further questioning the MCC’s policy on illegal flex banners and hoardings, Kamath pointed out the irony in the administration’s claims of strict enforcement. He asked why no action was taken against the numerous banners and hoardings put up across the city during Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s recent visit or for sports events and programs organized by Congress leaders. He concluded by demanding that officials discharge their duties with integrity and impartiality instead of operating under the shadow of political influence.
