Bantwal : Member of Parliament Captain Brijesh Chowta and Bantwal MLA Rajesh Naik chaired a high-level joint meeting with the Dakshina Kannada district administration to address the critical issues facing the Bantwal Town Municipality. The primary focus was the severe financial distress of outsourced and minimum-wage employees who have not received their salaries on time. Following appeals from the struggling workers, the leaders issued a stern directive to the concerned officials to settle all pending wages immediately to ensure the employees’ livelihoods are not further compromised.
Protection of Netravati River
The meeting also highlighted a major environmental concern regarding the pending Underground Drainage (UGD) project. Despite funds being sanctioned during the previous government’s tenure, the project remains incomplete, leading to the direct discharge of untreated sewage into the Netravati River. Expressing concern over the pollution of the district’s lifeline and the potential risk of epidemics, the MP and MLA instructed the district administration to expedite the UGD works. They emphasized the need to preserve the sanctity of the Netravati River by preventing waste from entering its waters.
Key Officials in Attendance
The coordination meeting was attended by Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner H.V. Darshan, Project Director of the District Urban Development Cell Santosh Kumar, and Bantwal Municipal Chief Officer Teerthaprasad. Former MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik was also present during the deliberations, which aimed at streamlining municipal governance and infrastructure development in the region.
