Mangaluru : The National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, held its spectacular 23rd Convocation ceremony, which witnessed the highest number of graduates and families participating in recent years. A total of 1,995 degrees were awarded to students, including a record 193 PhDs. The degrees conferred included 935 B.Tech, 641 M.Tech, 23 M.Tech (Research), 66 MCA, 69 MBA, and 68 M.Sc degrees.
The event’s Chief Guest was Mr. Kamal Bali, Past Chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) South India, and President and Managing Director of Volvo Group India. In his address, he noted the rapid pace of global change, the competition among major powers, and the shift from globalization back toward regionalism. Highlighting the impact of AI, he urged graduates to embrace ‘Comprehensive Sustainability’—a framework that is economically sound, environmentally friendly, inclusive, and ethical. Mr. Bali stressed that graduates must focus on innovation, entrepreneurship, and excellence in quality, while taking pride in being Indian.
Prof. B. Ravi, Director of NITK Surathkal, highlighted the institution’s progress in infrastructure, academics, and research. He lauded the success stories of several NITK startups, including Beehive, Bluetokai, Delhivery, Practo, and Robosoft. Prof. Ravi described the year as significant for NITK, marking rapid advancement in innovation and entrepreneurship through new policies, training programs, patents, and technology licenses. He extended gratitude to the BoG Chairman, Shri B.V.R. Mohan Reddy, BoG members, Senators, Deans, HODs, faculty, and staff for their support.
For the first time, NITK implemented a unique system to manage the large gathering: four parallel mini-stages were set up, allowing Deans and HODs to distribute the degree certificates simultaneously. This solution ensured that all degree certificates were distributed within an hour, receiving high praise from attendees. Out of the 1,995 graduates, 1,455 attended the ceremony in person, along with 1,885 parents. Additionally, 10 B.Tech and 31 postgraduate students were honoured with gold medals and sponsored medals for their outstanding academic achievements.
Shri Niranjan Mahabalappa, President of the NITK Alumni Association, commended the splendid organization of the convocation and expressed pride in welcoming the 2025 batch into the NITK Alumni family.
