Mangaluru : Following the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon on Thursday evening, the coastal districts of Karnataka are set to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday, March 20. Al-Haj Twaqa Ahmed Musliyar, the Khazi of Dakshina Kannada, officially confirmed the moon sighting and called upon the community to observe the festival on Friday. This announcement was formally conveyed by S.M. Rashid Haji, the treasurer of Masjid Zeenath Baksh, marking the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan.
In light of the festive occasion, the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada H.V. Darshan has issued an official order declaring a public holiday across the district on Friday. The administration has ensured that the holiday applies to all government offices, schools, and colleges to allow citizens to participate in the religious prayers and celebrations.
Similarly, the Udupi district administration has responded to the moon sighting by declaring a general holiday for the entire district. Udupi Deputy Commissioner Swaroopa T.K. confirmed the holiday order for Friday, March 20, citing the official celebration of Ramadan. Both districts are now geared up for the festivities, with security and arrangements being monitored by the respective local authorities.
