Mangaluru : The Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists’ Association (DKWJA) has elected Pushparaj B N, the Mangaluru Bureau Chief of Vartha Bharathi, as its new President for the 2025–28 term. The election, held on Sunday at the District Information and Public Relations Department Hall, concluded with enthusiastic participation from journalists across the district.
Pushparaj B N secured a decisive victory, polling 187 votes. He successfully overcame the challenge posed by his main rival, Shravan Kumar Naala of Vijayavani newspaper, who received 144 votes.
President’s Extensive Background
The new President brings a rich legacy of nearly three decades in public service and journalism. Since 1990–91, Pushparaj has been actively involved in literacy movements and educational awareness initiatives. His prior experience includes significant roles within the Puttur Taluk and Kodagu District Working Journalists’ Associations, as well as serving the DKWJA itself as an executive member and treasurer.
Other Key Election Results
In other major results, former association president Srinivas Nayak was elected as a member of the State Executive Committee. Nayak secured a strong mandate with 204 votes, defeating Vijayavani reporter Ansar Inoli, who managed 124 votes.

There have been unopposed elections for some key positions. Accordingly, Rajesh Poojary has been elected unopposed as General Secretary and Vijaya Kotian as Treasurer.
The elected Vice Presidents are Muhammad Arif, Wilfred D’Souza, and Rajesh Shetty, while Satish Ira, Siddiq Neeraje, and Suresh Palli were elected as Secretaries.

The following journalists were elected to the Executive Committee: Ashok Shetty B N, Sandesh Jara, Sandeep Kumar M, Lakshminarayana Rao, Harish Motukana, Divakar Padmunja, Kiran U Sirsikar, Abhishek H S, Jayashree, Bhuvaneshwar G, Sandeep Wagle, Harish K Adoor, Girish Appangai, Sandeep Salyan, and Arif Kalkatta.
