Bengaluru : A tragic stampede near Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium claimed at least 11 lives and left 33 injured on Wednesday, as massive crowds gathered to celebrate Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) historic IPL 2025 win.
The chaos erupted ahead of a public felicitation ceremony for the team, attended by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Authorities estimate that 2-3 lakh fans thronged the venue—far exceeding expectations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the incident “heartrending” and offered condolences. The BJP blamed the Congress-led Karnataka government for “criminal negligence” and demanded resignations, while the state defended its response, citing the unexpected turnout.
RCB had secured their maiden IPL title after defeating Punjab Kings by six runs in a thrilling final in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, ending an 18-year title drought. Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the incident “heartrending” and offered condolences.
