Mangalore, June 24 (K.V):- A meeting of the Dakshina Kannada District Animal Welfare Association was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Darshan H. V.
The Deputy Commissioner said that in order to prevent animal cruelty, pet shops operating in the district should be registered with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). He directed the officials to set a time limit for the owners of pet shops operating without SPCA registration and take necessary legal action against the owners who do not register within the specified time limit.
Animal protection is an important task and cruelty to animals should be prevented and protected in the district. He said that appropriate action should be taken against them if cruelty to animals is found.
The meeting discussed the implementation of the project to open an animal-friendly hospital in Bondantila village of Mangaluru taluk to provide necessary care to the homeless animals in the district. The public and school students are being informed through an awareness program about treating mute animals with compassion and humanity, and an awareness program is being conducted about the implementation of the Animal Welfare Law established by the Animal Welfare Board in collaboration with the relevant departments at the state and district levels, said Arun Kumar Shetty, Deputy Director of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Department.
District Superintendent of Police Dr. Arun K, ACP Geetha Kulkarni, Municipal Commissioner Ravichandra Nayak, committee member Suma R Nayak and others were present in the meeting.
