Mangaluru : The State Government has announced the State Film Lifetime Achievement, Literature, and Best Short Film Awards for the year 2019. These awards are scheduled to be presented at the 2018 and 2019 State Film Awards ceremony, which will be held in Mysuru on November 3rd.
Lifetime Achievement Awards
The prestigious Dr. Rajkumar Award for Lifetime Achievement in Kannada cinema has been conferred upon senior film and theatre actress Umashree. The Puttanna Kanagal Award goes to N.R. Nanjundegowda, and the Dr. Vishnuvardhan Award has been given to Richard Castelino from the D.K. district. All three awards include a cash prize of ₹5 lakh and a fifty-gram gold medal.
Richard Castelino
Richard Castelino, a native of Mangaluru, is a renowned film director who has worked extensively in the Tulu, Konkani, Kodava, and Kannada film industries. He set a world record in the 1990s by completing the Tulu film ‘September 8’ in just 24 hours.
Castelino’s Notable Works
His Tulu film ‘Bangara Patler’ gained significant attention, winning several national and international awards and being screened at the Cannes Film Festival. Castelino entered the Kannada film industry in 2017 with the film ‘Ellellu Neene Nannallu Neene’ and has also directed other Kannada films such as ‘Ponnamma’ and ‘Kajar’.
