Mangaluru : A contract employee lost his life in the massive explosion and fire that broke out at the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) facility on Wednesday afternoon. Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy confirmed that a charred body was recovered from the blast site during the rescue operation.
The deceased has been identified as 23-year-old Manish Karkera, a native of Mulki. He had gone missing in the immediate aftermath of the explosion in the area where he was deployed as a contract worker. Search teams later recovered his body from the debris.
Providing an official update on the casualties, the Police Commissioner stated that one person has died, one worker suffered severe burn injuries, and eight others escaped with minor injuries. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the tragic incident.
