Sahyadri Athletic Team Secures 9th Consecutive Overall Championship at VTU State-Level Meet

Mangaluru : The athletic team of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangaluru, has once again proven its dominance by clinching the Overall Championship for the ninth time. The team delivered an extraordinary performance at the 27th Inter-Collegiate State-Level Athletic Championship organized by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) at KIT, Tiptur. Held from March 26 to 29, 2026, the meet saw Sahyadri amass a record-breaking total of 140 points, effectively shattering previous all-time records in the competition’s history.

The college’s success was fueled by stellar individual performances, with Pranay J. Shetty being named the Best Athlete in the Men’s category and Pallavi J. S. earning the Best Athlete title in the Women’s category. Sahyadri swept both major divisions, securing the Men’s Section Championship with 57 points and the Women’s Section Championship with 73 points. Highlighting their discipline and coordination beyond the track, the team also bagged second place in the March Past event. The scale of this victory is particularly significant given the high level of competition, which featured 2,232 athletes representing 137 colleges from across the state.

The Women’s section saw a cascade of medals, including double gold-medal performances by Pranjali A. in Discus Throw and Shot-put, and Pallavi J. S. in Triple Jump and Long Jump. Other gold medalists included Veeksha V. (10,000 MTR), Saniya Shetty (800 MTR), Vaishnavi Padasalgi (20KM Walk), and Deeksha N. (Pole Vault). The relay teams also excelled, securing gold in the 4×400 MTR event. The Men’s section was equally formidable, led by Pranay J. Shetty’s gold medals in the 100 MTR and 200 MTR sprints. Additional golds were won by Prajwal in Hurdles, Manvith U. in the 400 MTR, and Pravith in the 20KM Walk, complemented by gold-winning performances in the 4×100 MTR, 4×400 MTR, and Mixed Relay events.

This historic win reinforces Sahyadri’s status as a powerhouse in collegiate athletics within the VTU circuit. By consistently nurturing elite sporting talent alongside academic excellence, the institution has set a new benchmark for athletic performance in Karnataka. The determination of the athletes, combined with rigorous training and team spirit, ensured that Sahyadri remained unrivaled, turning this prestigious state-level meet into a celebration of their ninth championship title.
