Mangaluru: The New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) welcomed the second cruise ship of the current season, MS Island Sky, which arrived from Mormugao on Thursday, February 19. Sailing under the Bahamas flag and managed by Salen Ship Management AB, the vessel docked at the port at 7:30 AM. The arrival marks a significant step in the region’s efforts to establish itself as a premier destination on the international cruise map.
The ship carried 95 passengers and 70 crew members, all of whom were accorded a traditional grand welcome at the port’s cruise terminal. To enhance the experience for the international visitors, the NMPA provided various amenities, including a dedicated meditation center established by the Ministry of AYUSH and complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi. A popular highlight was the colorful selfie stand depicting Mangaluru’s iconic Yakshagana art form, set up by the Ministry of Tourism, where tourists captured memories of their visit.
After a brief but culturally enriching stay, the vessel departed from the Mangaluru coast at 1:00 PM. Port officials emphasized that the arrival of such international cruises plays a vital role in stimulating the local economy and promoting regional tourism. The NMPA remains committed to providing world-class infrastructure to ensure Mangaluru continues to grow as an emerging and preferred cruise tourism destination.
