Mangaluru : Deputy Commissioner Darshan H.V. has issued orders imposing prohibitory orders (Section 144 of CrPC) in the limits of Bajpe and Kinnigoli Town Panchayats (TPs). This move aims to maintain public peace and order to ensure free and fair elections. The order will be in force from 5:00 PM on December 19 until 12:00 AM (midnight) on December 21.
During this period, several restrictions have been mandated across the two town panchayat areas. The gathering of five or more people is prohibited, and all rallies, processions, or public meetings are banned. Furthermore, carrying any deadly weapons or explosive materials that could cause danger is strictly forbidden. The use of loudspeakers is also restricted. To facilitate voter turnout, all markets and fairs (sante/jathre) within the TPs are banned on the polling day, December 21. Pre-planned events such as marriages, religious functions, processions, and funerals are permitted, provided they do not violate the election code of conduct or pose a threat to law and order.
The general and bye-elections for the TPs will be held on December 21. Voting will take place across 19 wards with 19 polling booths in Bajpe Town Panchayat, and 18 wards with 18 polling booths in Kinnigoli Town Panchayat.
In addition to the prohibitory orders, the Deputy Commissioner has declared a “Dry Day” for the same duration: from 5:00 PM on December 19 to 12:00 AM on December 21. All forms of liquor shops, manufacturing units, toddy shops, and the sale of all types of liquor are strictly prohibited in the Bajpe and Kinnigoli Town Panchayat jurisdictions during this period.
