Bantwal : The Bantwal Town Police have registered a case against an individual named Prabhakar Hegde on charges of posting derogatory and threatening comments on social media regarding a recent road accident involving former minister B. Ramanath Rai. The action was taken following a formal complaint lodged by Baby Kundar, Chairman of the Bantwal Town Planning Authority.
The incident traces back to September 20, when the vehicle carrying former minister Ramanath Rai met with an accident near Karkala. Rai, along with his personal assistant, bodyguard, and driver, sustained injuries in the mishap and was subsequently admitted to Yenepoya Hospital in Mangaluru for medical treatment.
According to the complaint, after visuals of the accident were posted on Facebook, the accused Prabhakar Hegde posted offensive remarks and threats in the comment section using abusive language. Following court clearance (Dis. No. 845/2026 via M.P.C. 2319), the Bantwal Town Police registered a case under Crime No. 130/2026 under Sections 351(2) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation is currently underway.
