Bengaluru : The State government has decided to ban the use of plastic on the premises of temples coming under the Muzrai Department.
The order will come into effect from August 15, Ramalinga Reddy, Minister for Transport and Muzrai, said adding that it would be implemented in 34,505 temples.
Addressing presspersons, he said steps had been taken to control the use of plastic in the State and it was in this direction that the use of plastic was also being banned in temples.
“In the last three months, 1,253 temples have been identified and around 11,322 properties have been registered under the department. We have 36,000 acres of land that are yet to be registered, and they will be registered step by step and linked with Bhoomi. We have also planned to build residential buildings at places which have important temples in other States,” he said. He also informed that these buildings were being built on a site on M.G. Road in Tirupati.
Further, the Minister said scholarship had been provided to children of priests by the department. “We have given scholarship to 249 children and we have also given compensation of Rs. 14 lakh to the families of seven deceased priests,” he added.
